Imam Qarafi's Arguments in Criticism on the New Testament
Abstract
Between the 11th and 13th centuries AD, a Christian bishop "Paul" has passed in Antioch, commonly known as “Paul of Antioch”. The exact tenure of this person has not yet been determined. Paul prepared a treatise “Al-Risalah” in which he presented some Qur'anic verses and some rational arguments to justify Christianity. One of the discourses that were presented in this document of Paul is the authenticity of the Bible. He tried to prove that the Qur'an recognizes the Bible incorruptible. He quoted some verses of the Holy Qur'an in order to prove his opinion. After that, Paul tried to prove the same case through several rational arguments that the Bible has not been distorted. In response, Imam Shahab u Din Al-Qarafi presented the Islamic narrative of both the Old Testament and the New Testament through his book “Al-Ajwiba Al-Fakhira An-Al Asilah Al-Fajirah”. In this article, Imam Qarafi's critical arguments regarding the New Testament have been mentioned and explained. The references of the verses of the Old Testament have also been presented, which were not done by Imam Qarafi, but merely pointed to them. It should be noted that this aspect of Imam Qarafi's argument does not only contain the counter-narrative of "Al-Risalah" of Paul, but Imam Qarafi has also established three more Discourses related to the New Testament after judging the arguments of the Paul. Those discourses have also been included in explained in this article.
