Abstract

From the early period of Islam to this day, thousands of scholars and interpreters have written the Tafasir for the exposition of the holy Quran. "Mafatih ul Ghaib" also known as "Tafseer Kabir" is one of them which is written by Muhammad Bin Umar Al Razi, the leader of interpreters. In the style of expressing and the good arrangement, this Tafseer is a distinct to his contemporary and subsequent written Tafaseer. In this Tafseer, islamic Beliefs and commandments are explained with narrative as well as logical arguments. This holds the position of being an origin and source for all the Tafaseer written afterwards. Hardly, there would be a book written on the pattern of Ahlus Sunnah and still not referred to Tafsir Kabir. In light of its significance, many writers and researchers from the Indian subcontinent have attempted to translate this commentary for Urdu-speaking audiences. As a result of these efforts, translations like "Safar-e-Sagheer", "Tafseer-e-Kabeer Kaamil", and "Fazl-e-Qadeer" have emerged. Additionally, several doctoral theses have been written on this subject in various universities in Pakistan. The present paper not only introduces Imam Razi and "Tafsir Kabeer" but also provides a comparative study of various translations of this important work, highlighting the distinct features of each translation.
