Abstract

Māulānā Abul Kālām Azād was an outstanding political personality of independent India. Māulānā Azād was a supporter of the All India Congress and a strong supporter of united Indian nationalism. Allāmā Iqbāl advanced from Indianism to Islamism in his political thought and practice, while Māulānā Azād took the path from Islamism to Indian nationalism. This is the reason why the vast majority of the Muslims of India refused to follow the path shown by Māulānā Azād and adopted the thought and philosophy of Iqbal and established Pakistan under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam. It is a fact that the Muslims of India, at the most critical stage of their national life, showed full confidence in the political leadership of Quaid-e-Azam by expressing their lack of confidence in the political leadership of Māulānā Azād. Thus, Māulānā preferred to stay in the Congress instead of joining the caravan of Muslims. Māulānā had become the President of the Congress for a short period of time due to his association with the Congress of United Nationalism, but finally the fact became clear to him that the supporters of United Indian Nationality had left him far behind.
